Who has sinned?

3:10 As Scripture says, “Not one person has God’s approval.

3:23 Because all people have sinned, they have fallen short of God’s glory.

5:12 So sin came into the world through one person, and death came through sin. Death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned.

What is the penalty for sin?

6:23 The reward for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God’s provision for sin!

5:8 Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God’s love for us.

4:25 Jesus, our Lord, was handed over to death because of our failures and was brought back to life so that we could receive God’s approval.

God’s justification and sanctification!

3:24-26 They receive God’s approval freely by an act of his kindness through the price Christ Jesus paid to set us free from sin. God showed that Christ is the throne of mercy where God’s approval is given through faith in Christ’s blood. In his patience God waited to deal with sins committed in the past. He waited so that he could display his approval at the present time. This shows that he is a God of justice, a God who approves of people who believe in Jesus.

5:1-2 Now that we have God’s approval because of faith, we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done. Through Christ we can approach God and stand in his favor. So we brag because of our confidence that we will receive glory from God.

5:18 Therefore, everyone was condemned through one failure, and everyone received God’s life-giving approval through one verdict.

Our Response to God, what must I do to be saved?

10:9-13 If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved. By believing you receive God’s approval, and by declaring your faith you are saved. Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be ashamed.” There is no difference between Jews and Gentiles. They all have the same Lord, who gives his riches to everyone who prays to him. So then, “Whoever prays in the name of the Lord will be saved.”

"Father in heaven I realize that I’m a sinner and that I need a savior. Lord I am sorry for my sins and turn from my life of sin. I accept by faith that Jesus Christ died and was raised from the dead, that His blood has paid the penalty for my sin. I accept Jesus Christ as the Lord of my life from this day forward. This I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, so be it"
